Lindsay Lewis, MD

“I want to establish an open and trusting environment for my patients—no concern is too small,” says Dr. Lindsay Lewis. Of course, she also remembers being a 15-year-old. “I would not have been comfortable talking about women’s health issues – even with my doctor. Now I realize, our doctors are not going to judge you for anything you say. Start a conversation. We need more voices and more conversations to shine a spotlight on women’s health and normalize the conversation. It all starts with being open and trusting. Don’t be afraid.”

Get to Know Dr. Lewis

For Dr. Lewis, joining the practice at Southdale ObGyn was like coming home. She grew up in Eden Prairie, studied biology at the University of Minnesota, then moved to D.C. to attend George Washington University Medical School. She returned to the University of Minnesota for her residency. And she is the second ObGyn physician in her family; her older sister practices out-of-state. “I had so many mentors—including my sister and in my residency—who were female leaders. It was a wonderful program. I also played soccer when I was young, and I’m a huge fan of the Women’s World Cup. Young, confident, successful women have always inspired me.”

When she’s not in the office, she enjoys reading, biking around the lakes, theatre and travel. But she is most passionate about the Vikings! (Could that be because her dad played for them?)

The Not So Secret Side of Dr. Lewis

Prenatal & Childbirth

There is nothing quite as wonderous as pregnancy. During her multifaceted residency, Dr. Lewis gained a lot of experience in labor and delivery. Working at Hennepin County Medical Center, Regions Hospital and Methodist Hospital, her cases ran the spectrum and introduced her to a wide variety of conditions. No two pregnancies or births are the same, and Dr. Lewis is well-prepared to support patients through the physical and emotional journey of pregnancy and high-risk obstetrics.

Gynecological

“Few other fields in medicine allow doctors the opportunity to form life-long relationships with their patients,” says Dr. Lewis. “You build a life-long relationship with your gynecological provider.” As an advocate for women, she hopes that relationship begins in a patient’s pre-teen years, then continues through preventative screening, sexual health care, childbirth and menopause. “I want them to know their concerns are valid and important to their overall health. I ask standard questions about topics they may be embarrassed to bring up. I want to provide a safe environment for that conversation.”

Surgical

Dr. Lewis takes special interest in high-risk obstetrics, contraception and minimally invasive gynecology. She’s interested in robotics and gained training and experience during her residency in laparoscopy. “It can provide a less invasive option” for diagnostics and surgery of the ovaries, fallopian tubes and uterus.
