At Southdale ObGyn, we treat women at every stage of life, from adolescence through post-menopause. We take pride in offering our patients safe and effective treatment options that keep up with advancements in women’s health.

We have recently expanded our clinical offerings to include MonaLisa Touch, a therapy that impacts thousands of women suffering from painful intercourse due to vaginal atrophy. This elective procedure is excellent for patients who have not responded to, or who are unable to use, other hormonal based treatments.

It is estimated that 50% of women past their mid 40s experience symptoms of declining genitourinary health. Women may reach menopause due to age, surgical removal of the ovaries, or chemotherapy treatment for cancer. When natural estrogen is no longer produced, gynecologic health is likely to decline as a result of this deficiency. Some of the most common symptoms include vaginal dryness, burning, itching, and painful intercourse.

To treat these symptoms, Southdale ObGyn is using an FDA approved, in-office CO2 laser called the MonaLisa Touch. It delivers gentle laser energy to the vaginal wall tissue to resurface vaginal epithelium, stimulate production of collagen + elastin, and restore blood flow. The MonaLisa Touch procedure is performed in the office, takes less than 5 minutes to administer, and requires no anesthesia or sedation. A series of 3 treatments is recommended, over 18 weeks. For most women, results last one year or longer. Most women have immediate and continued relief of symptoms, with the added benefit of the procedure being non-hormonal and targeted only to the affected tissues.

We are proud to be one of only 4 providers in the state of Minnesota offering this service and are happy to consult with patients and physicians on the benefits of this therapy.
