Can the COVID-19 Vaccine Impact Mammogram Results?
Due to your body’s expected immune response after the COVID-19 vaccination, you may experience swelling in the lymph nodes in the underarm where you received your shot.

Due to your body’s expected immune response after the COVID-19 vaccination, you may experience swelling in the lymph nodes in the underarm where you received your shot. Although this is a normal response and sign that your body is building protection against COVID-19, it can cause an abnormal reading on your mammogram. To avoid a false reading, consider getting your annual screening mammogram before your vaccine or wait 4-6 weeks after.

If you have breast concerns, such as lumps, skin changes or nipple discharge, do not delay seeking medical care, regardless of the timing of vaccination. Please contact your provider with any specific questions that you may have.
